Artist's Comments

This is a painting of a girl playing a guitar. This was inspired by the growing popularity of the guitar among the Hmong teens. She wears a traditional Hmong outfit yet holds a modern classical guitar. It represents the clash of cultures that Hmong teens face today in the United States.

The painting took too many hours. I had lot's of emotional battles as to what I wanted. At the end, this is the result. I am satisfied with the outcome even though I could render more things out. I love the left hand and arm but dislike the right. The dress was a lot of fun.

Looks great! It's got a nice sense of texture to her clothes, especially contrasted against the relative smoothness of the guitar. Which I suppose mirrors the culture clash in and of itself. ;)
